A massive cast has been assembled for the Mexican historical epic “Cristiada” for NewLand Films reports Variety.
The action is set during the 1926-29 Cristero War, the uprising that took place after the Mexican government’s constitution in 1917 imposed anti-clerical provisions to remove the Catholic Church’s influence and secularize the country.
Andy Garcia, Bruce Greenwood, Peter O’Toole, Oscar Isaac (“Robin Hood”), Eva Longoria Parker (“Desperate Housewives”), Santiago Cabrera (“Heroes”), Ruben Blades (“Predator 2”), Catalina Sandino Moreno (“Maria Full of Grace”) and Nestor Cabonell (“Lost”) make up the cast.
Former visual effects supervisor Dean Wright is helming from a script he co-wrote with Michael James Love. Pablo Jose Barroso is producing.
Called the largest Mexican-produced film, the three-month shoot began this week in various locations around the country including Mexico City, Durango, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosi and Puebla.
