Jeremy Irons and Matthias Schoenaerts are set to join Jennifer Lawrence and Joel Edgerton in Francis Lawrence’s spy thriller “Red Sparrow” for 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment.
Based on the Jason Matthews novel and set in contemporary Russia, the story follows a female state intelligence officer drafted against her will to become a ‘Sparrow,’ a trained seductress in the service. She is soon assigned a first-tour CIA officer who handles the agency’s most sensitive penetration of Russian intelligence.
The two young officers collide in a charged atmosphere of deception and sexual attraction. She then seeks revenge against her soulless masters, whilst helping the CIA to ferret out a high-level traitor in Washington. Darren Aronofsky and David Fincher were previously linked as potential helmers for the project.
Justin Haythe and Eric Warren Singer penned the script and the film is currently slated for a November 10th 2017 release. Steve Zaillian and Garrett Basch will produce.
