A sequel to Spike Lee’s 2006 bank heist thriller “Inside Man” is moving forward at Universal Pictures reports Reuters.
Terry George (“Hotel Rwanda,” “In the Name of the Father”) is in negotiations to write the screenplay and Lee will again direct the Brian Grazer-produced film.
“Inside Man 2” will pick up on the characters and dynamic but not the story line of the original which centered on a standoff between a bank robber (Clive Owen) and a hostage negotiator (Denzel Washington) at a New York bank.
Lee says he foresees that the new film will continue the relationship between the two main characters but in a new high-tension situation. No mention if Jodie Foster’s manipulative power broker character will be involved.
The original scored critical acclaim, notably for Lee’s work and scribe Russell Gewirtz’s script, and went on to become a worldwide smash with $175 million in box-office revenue.
