Marvel is slated to begin production on its “Inhumans” TV series in March with filming to take place in Chicago and Los Angeles according to Production Weekly.
The series will consist of a total of eight episodes which ABC plan to broadcast every Tuesday with no interruptions starting September 26th. Before that, the first two episodes will premiere in IMAX theaters on September 1st.
As we know, the series will follow the Inhuman Royal Family. A new report from MCU Exchange indicates it will feature characters such as Blackbolt, Medusa, Maximus, Karnak, Gorgon, Crystal, and Triton. The show will have scenes on Earth as well as on the Moon, the latter being the site of the Inhuman city Attilan.
One obvious question is how the series will impact ABC’s “Agents of SHIELD” which has been utilising Inhuman characters since its second season. Fans are understandably sceptical that their series is going to be canned as it doesn’t have the critical clout of the Marvel-Netflix series, and ABC did axe critical favorite but ratings under performer “Agent Carter”.
Speaking at the TCA’s this week, ABC president Channing Dungey says she’s “very bullish” on the chances of a fifth season renewal for “SHIELD” and that the “show has gotten creatively stronger and better” every year. She also stresses the “Inhumans” series will be different from any Marvel show on the air:
“What we’re doing with IMAX is very different, and I think it’s going to feel and look very different from what they’re doing on Netflix. Hopefully there’s a world for me where those shows exist side-by-side on our air and are two different pieces of music that exist together in the same landscape.”
Dungey also had a brief update on the status of “12 Years a Slave” scribe John Ridley’s secret Marvel TV series project for the network:
“John is working on a rewrite of that script for Marvel at the moment. We have not seen a new version of it. He’s been on production of his show, over in London, and on season 3 of American Crime, so those are the things that have been top of mind for him of late. But I have heard from Marvel that he is working on a revision to that script.”
“Inhumans” kicks off in the Fall, “Agents of SHIELD” currently airs on Tuesdays and is in the middle of the second of three story arcs this season. Patton Oswalt is also set to return as the Koenigs in “SHIELD” where his family secret will finally be revealed.
