Inception, “King’s Speech” Top Awards Poll

On the eve of the Toronto Film Festival, David Poland’s just relaunched The Hot Blog has posted up the first ‘Gurus o’ Gold’ list for the films of 2010 with key film critics and awards pundits like Sasha Stone, Kris Tapley, Anne Thompson, Pete Hammond and Greg Ellwood all chiming in with a list of potential major contenders to score at the Oscars, Golden Globes and the like.

Making up the top choices at present are Chris Nolan’s mind-bending “Inception”, the biopic of Elizabeth II’s father and British monarch George VI with Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush entitled “The King’s Speech”, the animated sequel “Toy Story 3”, the recent critical hit “The Kids Are All Right” about a lesbian couple (Julianne Moore, Annette Benning) and their family, and David Fincher’s upcoming Facebook drama “The Social Network”.

Next comes Darren Aronofsky’s ballet world thriller “Black Swan”, the Coen Brothers western remake “True Grit”, Mike Leigh’s melancholic study of relationship happiness “Another Year”, Danny Boyle’s climbing accident drama “127 Hours”, Sundance prize winner “Winter’s Bone”, David O. Russell’s boxing drama “The Fighter” with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, Clint Eastwood’s upcoming supernatural drama “Hereafter” with Matt Damon, Mark Romanek’s novel adaptation “Never Let Me Go” and Ed Zwick’s romantic comedy/drama set against the launch of viagra “Love and Other Drugs”.

The list at this point last year picked seven of the final ten films to score the most acclaim from critics. The full list can be found here.
