Oscar-winning director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu has yet to settle on a feature film follow-up to “The Revenant,” but he does have an interesting side project on the way – a virtual reality short film which his ‘Revenant’ cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki is also onboard for.
The immersive virtual reality piece will explore the experience of a group of immigrants and refugees crossing the border between Mexico and the United States.
Legendary Entertainment and Fondazione Prada are producing the project which Inarritu has been developing for four years. Lucasfilm’s recently established Immersive Entertainment division ILMxLAB will build the virtual world and characters. The companies haven’t detailed how the film will be released.
