British actor and “Luther” and “Pacific Rim” star Idris Elba isn’t one to mince words. The actor participated in a recent Reddit AMA and kept his answers fairly short and to the point, in the process clearing up at least two rumors and actually generating one of his own.
First up, Netflix’s “Luke Cage” TV series. Elba has previously indicated he wanted the role, despite his presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Heimdall in the “Thor” movies, and a fan asked him what it would take for him to get the part.
Elba’s answer seemed to be a resigned indication he wouldn’t be portraying the hero after all: “Uh, I think there’s an actor already signed on for it, fortunately or unfortunately.” That comment raised eyebrows, has Marvel already found their Luke Cage and if so, who will play him?
Meanwhile, Elba shot down an old report regarding Guy Ritchie’s upcoming “King Arthur” movie. Elba had been rumored to be joining the project as a new take on the wizard Merlin, but the actor denies it’s true: “Unfortunately I’m not in the ‘King Arthur’ movies. That was a rumor, that wasn’t true unfortunately. But I wish the guys a lot of success.”
Both “Luke Cage” and “King Arthur” are expected to debut in 2016.
