James Patterson’s Alex Cross character is getting a reboot with an adaptation of the 2006 novel “Cross” reports Deadline.
Idris Elba (TV’s “The Wire,” “The Losers,” “Rocknrolla”) has signed on to play the forensic psychologist who in this story tracks a serial rapist who may have murdered his pregnant wife years before.
Morgan Freeman starred as Cross in two previous films, 1997’s “Kiss the Girls” and 2001’s “Along Came A Spider” at Paramount Pictures. This reboot is being privately financed but distribution is not yet locked.
David Twohy (“Pitch Black,” “The Arrival”) is set to direct from a script adapted by Kerry Williamson which Twohy will rewrite. Shooting kicks off next Spring. Patterson, Steve Bowen, Lloyd Levin and Leopoldo Goutm will produce.
Elba will next be seen on Showtime’s “The C Word” and recently starred as a serial killer hunting, unstable cop in the British series “Luther”.
