Ice Cube has joined the cast of Oren Moverman’s police drama “Rampart” for Lightstream Pictures says Variety.
Based on a story and screenplay by James Ellroy, the action follows a single cop (Woody Harrelson) against the backdrop of the corruption scandal surrounding the anti-gang unit of the LAPD’s Rampart Division in the late 1990s.
Over 70 officers were implicated in misconduct which included unprovoked shootings, beatings, planting of evidence, framing of suspects, stealing and dealing narcotics, bank robbery, perjury and covering up evidence.
Cube joins Harrelson and Ben Foster who previously worked with Moverman in 2009’s “The Messenger”. Cube and Foster will play two officers.
Lawrence Inglee, Clark Peterson and Paul Currie will produce. Filming kicks off late August in Los Angeles.
