Ice Cube has reportedly closed a deal to star alongside Tracee Ellis Ross and Dakota Johnson in the comedy “Covers” for Focus Features and Working Title.
“Late Night” helmer Nisha Ganatra directs the project which is set among the talent, fame and fast-paced world of Hollywood’s music scene. Flora Greeson penned the script while Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner are producing.
In addition, Cube is separately negotiating to team with Dave Bautista in the Simon Kinberg & Rand Ravich-scripted adaptation of the Jay Bonansinga novel “The Killer’s Game” for STX and Endurance.
DJ Caruso will direct the film in which Bautista plays devout Catholic hitman Joe Flood who learns he will die of a terminal disease.
He takes out a contract on himself and makes sure the woman he has fallen in love with is financially set, but when he learns he has been misdiagnosed and is fine – he sets out to protect his lover and try to call off the hit.
Cube plays the best of several assassins now vying for the bounty. Andrew Lazar, Steve Richards, Scott Lambert and Kia Jam will produce.
