A couple of key acquisitions took place today starting with Netflix nabbing the rights to “Oculus” helmer Mike Flanagan’s latest horror-thriller “Hush” which it will release on April 8th. Kate Siegel, John Gallagher Jr. and Michael Trucco star in the film which will premiere shortly at SXSW.
“Hush” deals with a reclusive author losing her hearing who must fight against a masked psychotic killer who appears in the window of her secluded home.
Next up, Starz has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum-directed, Nick Jonas-led “Careful What You Wish For” which will get a June theatrical release followed by a VOD and Starz premiere later this year.
Isabel Lucas and Dermot Mulroney also star in the film in which Jonas plays a young man who begins an affair with the beautiful wife (Lucas) of his powerful investment banker neighbor (Mulroney). A suspicious death then embroils the two young leads in a scandal.
Finally, A24 has scored the U.S. rights to “High-Rise” and “Kill List” director Ben Wheatley’s action-thriller “Free Fire”. Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer, Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy and Jack Reynor all star in the film about an arms deal that goes spectacularly wrong. No word on a release date.
