Charlie Hunnam (“Pacific Rim,” “Sons of Anarchy”) will star opposite Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller in James Gray’s film adaptation of David Grann’s Amazonian mystery novel “The Lost City of Z” at Plan B and MICA Entertainment.
Hunnam is replacing Benedict Cumberbatch who was previously set to star, but had to leave the project due to his commitments to other films – most notably Marvel’s “Doctor Strange”.
Hunan will play Colonel Percival Harrison Fawcett, a former decorated British soldier turned early 20th century explorer. Fawcett and his son disappeared in 1925 during an expedition to find the ancient and lost ‘City of Z’ in the uncharted jungles of the Amazon.
Over the next seventy years, scores of explorers tried and failed to retrace Fawcett’s path, including a 1996 expedition of Brazilian adventurers. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Dale Johnson and Anthony Katagas are producing.
