Hulu has released the first photos from “The Handmaid’s Tale,” its upcoming ten-episode TV series adaptation of the award-winning, best-selling novel by Margaret Atwood. The first season launches in April.
The story is set in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state.
Elisabeth Moss is Offred, one of the few fertile women left and Handmaid in the Commander’s household. She and several other women are forced into sexual servitude as a last attempt to repopulate a devastated world. In this terrifying society where one wrong word could end her life, but she moves swiftly with one purpose – to find the daughter that was taken from her.
Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, Ann Dowd and O-T Fagbenle co-star in the series which is executive produced by Bruce Miller.
