Marvel isn’t funnelling all its product to Disney+ as Hulu announced this morning plans for two new live-action series based on the “Ghost Rider” and “Hellstrom” titles.
Marvel Television is behind both series with company head Joseph Loeb suggesting the pair of series will be teamed for a ‘Spirit of Vengeance’ programming block.
The new “Ghost Rider” centers on Robbie Reyes, a quintessential antihero who lives on the Texas/Mexico border who is consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. When he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles to control the power he wields.
Variety adds that Gabriel Luna will return to the role of Robbie Reyes which he played on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” but the new series “will be a completely new iteration of the character in no way connected to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. storyline”. In other words they like the actor, they’re just ditching the continuity so newcomers can jump right in.
“Helstrom” follows Daimon and Stana Helstrom, siblings and offspring of a mysterious and powerful serial killer. They have a complicated dynamic as they track down the worst of humanity – each with their attitude and skills. Ingrid Escajeda will serve as showrunner on “Ghost Rider,” while Paul Zbyszewski will do the same on “Helstrom”.
Neither series has set a date. The streaming service also affirmed that a third season of “Runaways” is happening.
