Hulu has announced plans to develop a TV series adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ 1985 novel “Less Than Zero”.
Set in Los Angeles in the early 1980’s, the story deals with a lost generation who have experienced sex, drugs, and disaffection at too early an age – their world shaped by casual nihilism, passivity, and too much money and with no feeling or hope.
Clay comes home for Christmas vacation from his Eastern college and re-enters this landscape. He tries to renew feelings for his girlfriend and his best friend, but his holiday turns into a dizzying spiral of desperation that takes him through the relentless parties into the seamy world of L.A. after dark.
Ellis and Craig Wright (“Greenleaf”) will executive produce for Fox 21 Television Studios. The work was previously adapted into the 1987 film starring Robert Downey Jr., James Spader, Jami Gertz and Andrew McCarthy.
