Hulu has scrapped its planned live-action Marvel series based on the “Ghost Rider” comic character, abandoning the project four months after handing out a straight-to-series order.
Gabriel Luna was poised to reprise his role from “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” in the series which would’ve worked as a standalone, but The Live Feed indicates creative issues have stalled the series.
The story would’ve revolved around anti-hero Robbie Reyes, a man who lives on the Texas/Mexico border and is consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. When he unleashes the Rider, he brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters.
Ingrid Escajeda (“Justified”) was to have served as showrunner while Paul Zbyszewski and Jeph Loeb executive produce. The other live-action Marvel series ordered in May, “Helstrom,” is still going forward and will join “Runaways” and numerous animated series all being planned for Hulu.
“Ghost Rider” also marks the third straight-to-series Marvel series to be abandoned – the others being Freeform’s “New Warriors” and the Donald Glover-penned animated series “Deadpool”.
