Ron Howard says that he now expects to begin shooting his planned ambitious adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” for Universal Pictures around six months later than originally envisioned.
The filmmaker tells EW that “We had to pull back to our September start date due to budget delays and ongoing story development and logistical issues, but Dark Tower is moving forward. we’re thinking of starting in early spring now.”
The delay hasn’t lost him his lead star Javier Bardem, but it sounds like the actor isn’t as locked into the role of Gunslinger Roland Deschain as we first thought. “I can’t really say who’ll be in it yet, but Javier Bardem has shown a great deal of interest. We’ll know by the end of the summer, when our flashing green light goes solid” adds Howard.
Though the May 17th 2013 release date hasn’t been changed yet, it seems almost certain the film will be pushed back to a release later in the year.
