When “The Walking Dead” star Sonequa Martin-Green was named as the lead actress of the currently in production “Star Trek: Discovery” series, it immediately led to a lot of comments from fans suggesting that the days were numbered for the actresses’ character Sasha on the AMC hit zombie drama.
However, “Walking Dead” showrunner Scott Gimple has suggested that just because the actress has another job it doesn’t mean her character is going anywhere. Gimple tells EW that he’s happy to juggle scheduling for the actress:
“Sonequa Martin-Green can do anything. I’ve seen her battle a horde of walkers this year while simultaneously battling a stomach flu that would have had most people crying in the dirt. She can fulfill the duties of a Lieutenant Commander on a Constitution-class starship whilst battling walkers, Saviors, and whatever gets in Sasha’s way. We’ve had to juggle before. I will certainly juggle for Star Trek any day of the week. Okay, maybe not on Sunday.”
Unlike many shows, the large ensemble on “Walking Dead” could easily allow for the absence of the actress for some of its episodes. Production on ‘Discovery’ is slated to run through to early September, while “Walking Dead” begins shooting its new season of episodes in the Summer.
“The Walking Dead” returns from winter hiatus on Sunday, February 12th on AMC.
