“Remains of the Day” stars Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson will re-team on screen for a new BBC and Amazon Studios telemovie adaptation of “King Lear”.
Richard Eyre (“The Dresser”) has adapted the play and will direct the project which is set in a fictional version of present-day England, with Hopkins as the tragically capricious king and Thompson as his scheming eldest daughter, Goneril.
Emily Watson, Florence Pugh, Christopher Eccleston, Jim Broadbent and Adam Scott co-star. In the U.K., “King Lear” will launch on the BBC Two channel next year. Amazon has it for the U.S. and Germany, and will show it in the U.K. in a second window.
Principal photography gets underway this month. The news comes as English novelist and screenwriter Kazuo Ishiguro, who penned “The Remains of the Day,” has been awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize for Literature.
