Hopkins, Dench, Branagh Slip On “Shoes”

Anthony Hopkins and Judi Dench are in talks for the lead roles in Kenneth Branagh’s English-language film adaptation of “Italian Shoes” for Left Bank Pictures and Yellowbird says Variety.

Based on the 2006 novel by Swedish author Henning Mankell, the story follows a retired surgeon living on a remote island in Sweden, who is forced to confront his past mistakes when he’s reunited with an old flame.

Richard Cottan adapted the script and Branagh says the project was developed with Hopkins and Dench in mind. Shooting will kick off late next year depending upon the actor’s availability.

This territory is very familiar to Branagh as he is currently in northern Sweden producing and starring in the third season of the BBC’s “Wallander”, the small screen adaptation of Mankell’s most famous literary creation.
