Various production companies have begun announcing new film projects in the lead-up to the Cannes Film Market which is scheduled to begin later this month. Amongst the new films that have been announced in the past day or so:
Eye in the Sky
Gavin Hood is on board to direct and Colin Firth will lead an ensemble cast in eOne’s contemporary drone warfare thriller “Eye In The Sky” which will shoot in South Africa in August.
The story follows a military intelligence officer who is charged with remotely commanding a top secret drone operation to capture a group of terrorists from their safe-house in Kenya. Guy Hibbert (“Complicit”) penned the script. [Source: Screen]
Writer Danny Strong (“Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay”) will make his directorial debut on “Salinger’s War”, a biopic of famed author J.D. Salinger for Black Label Media.
Strong wrote the script on spec and the story follows the author from his early days in New York’s literary circle in the early 1940’s. Right as his career is about to begin, WWII breaks out and Salinger goes off to fight. His experiences at war forever change him, and help him find his voice as a writer. [Source: THR]
Dominic Brunt is directing the UK revenge-thriller “The Taking” which just began shooting in West Yorkshire. Brunt, Jezz Vernon, Joanne Mitchell, Michael Lacey, Jennifer Handorf and Helen Grace will produce.
Victoria Smurfit, Joanne Mitchell and Jonathan Slinger star in the story of two women who turn the tables on a vicious loan shark. [Source: Screen]
Untitled Divorce Comedy
Gillian Robespierre (“Obvious Child”) has co-written and will direct an untitled New York-set divorce-themed comedy which centers on three women. Robespierre will co-write with Elisabeth Holm, while Gigi Pritzker will produce. [Source: Screen]
Atom Egoyan is set to direct the thriller “Remember” for Serendipity Point Films. Ari Lantos and Robert Lantos will produce the film which begins filming July 14th in Toronto.
Christopher Plummer, Martin Landau, Dean Norris, Bruno Ganz, Heinz Lieven and GÃ¼nter Lamprecht star in the film. All that’s known of the story is that it deals with “the darkest chapter of modern history collides with a contemporary mission of revenge.” [Source: Screen]
Patrick Tatopoulos (“Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans”) is tapped to helm the original sci-fi fantasy “New Babylon” at Hydra Entertainment.
David LoPresti’s script is set in the Middle East in the near future when a war between angels and demons leads up to the building of a modern day Tower of Babel. [Source: Deadline]
