Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut “Quartet” is set to begin shooting later this year in the UK reports Digital Spy.
Producer Finola Dwyer (“An Education”) says “He is shooting on an HBO series, Luck, the Michael Mann series at the moment. As soon as he’s done with that he’ll come to London and we’ll shoot it in the Autumn.”
Dwyer confirmed that Maggie Smith, Tom Courtenay and Albert Finney are attached to star in this story about retired opera singers who plan a gala concert to celebrate Verdi’s birthday.
She also says “[Hoffman] is brilliant on script – a great script by Ronnie Harwood. He’s very precise – all those years of experience and his brilliance and genius is [a] delight.” BBC Films is funding the project.
