Dwayne Johnson himself has confirmed on Twitter that the first trailer for David Leitch’s “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw,” the upcoming first spin-off feature based on the “Fast & Furious” franchise, will go online this Friday.
The trailer launch comes ahead of the film screening a commercial during the Superbowl this coming Sunday, and shortly after filming wrapped on the production last week. Johnson and Jason Statham reprise their roles while Idris Elba and Vanessa Kirby co-star.
The news comes as Johnson tells MTV that his character won’t be in the about to begin filming “Fast and Furious 9” due to both the spin-off and his other commitments. However, that doesn’t mean he won’t return to the series eventually:
“The plan has always been for the Fast and Furious universe to grow and expand. As of now, we’re not in Fast 9 because they’re getting ready to start shooting. But who knows, with Fast 10 and down the road, you never know. Because Look, at the end of the day, the truth is there’s still unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom. It’s unfinished.”
The tenth film is reportedly supposed to conclude the franchise’s main story. “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” is slated to open in July.
