Highlander Reboot Gets Money, New Writers

Summit Entertainment and RCR Media Group are set to co-finance the former’s planned remake of cult 1986 hit “Highlander”.

In “Highlander”, after centuries of dueling to survive against others like him, Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his kind, a murderously brutal barbarian, who lusts for the fabled Prize of the power that comes with there being only one of their kind left.

Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown starred in the original which was followed by four further films and a TV spin-off series. Summit’s film will expand on the original Highlander’s core mythology. Art Marcum and Matt Holloway have also been confirmed as the latest scribes to work on the screenplay.

Justin Lin (“Fast Five”) remains attached to direct while Neal Moritz and Peter Davis are producing. A 2012 release is still planned.
