After several films, director David Mackenzie bowled over critics with 2013’s acclaimed prison drama “Starred Up” with Jack O’Connell and Ben Mendelsohn.
He returned last year with the modern western drama “Hell or High Water” which went on to score multiple award nominations and sit high on many critics’ end of year list.
Now, Mackenzie is in talks to re-team with his ‘High Water’ stars Chris Pine and Ben Foster for the new Netflix period film “Outlaw King”. Mackenzie will pen and direct the project which would star Pine as Scottish King Robert the Bruce in a story that almost serves as a pseudo-sequel to “Braveheart”.
Bruce fights the British for Scotland’s freedom in the years after rebel leader William Wallace’s death. The film will also include Bruce’s fight with the Catholic Church over the idea of a free country.
Gillian Berrie, Richard Brown and Steve Golin will produce.
