Hiddleston, Laurie Join Le Carre’s “Night”

“House” star Hugh Laurie and Marvel actor Tom Hiddleston are teaming on the limited espionage drama TV series “The Night Manager” based on the 1993 novel by John Le Carre.

The story follows Jonathan Pine, a British soldier turned luxurious hotel night auditor. Pine crosses paths with a French-Arab woman named Sophie with ties to Richard Onslow Roper, an English black marketer who specializes in weapons.

The woman provides Pine with incriminating documents, which he forwards to a friend in British intelligence. After Sophie winds up dead, Pine works with intelligence operatives and goes undercover as part of a sting against Roper.

The BBC and Ink Factory are co-producing the project which David Farr (“Hanna,” “Spooks”) is penning the adaptation of, with offers for a straight-to-series pickup from multiple U.S. networks reportedly out.
