Filmmaker Werner Herzog (“Cave of Forgotten Dreams,” “Grizzly Man”) has come onboard to play the villain in the action thriller “One Shot” at Paramount and Skydance reports Variety.
An adaptation of the Lee Child novel, Tom Cruise plays former military police officer Jack Reacher who looks into the case of a sniper arrested for murdering five random people at a mall. Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins and Robert Duvall also star.
Herzog will play The Zec, an ex-P.O.W. who arranges and stages the killing and is the head of the conspiracy. This is his first major acting role outside of cameos and voiceover work.
Christopher McQuarrie directs from his own adapted screenplay while Cruise, Megan Ellison, Don Granger, Paula Wagner, Dana Goldberg and Gary Levinsohn will produce. Shooting kicks off shortly in Pittsburgh.
