Herzog Plans Prison Tale & Desert Epic

Legendary indie filmmaker Werner Herzog (“Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans,” “Rescue Dawn,” “Encounters at the End of the World”) has revealed in interviews with The Playlist, Crave Online and Movieweb that he has two new features in the works.

The first is a big epic film set in the Middle East, but Herzog wouldn’t go into details. There’s speculation this ties into a biopic of Gertrude Bell mentioned last year.

The other project is described as being set in a Texan maximum security prison. He claims to have started shooting that film. Herzog revealed the news promoting the DVD release of his 2009 feature “My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done”.

His most recent effort, the 3D documentary “Cave Of Forgotten Dreams” is set to premiere in Toronto next month.
