Henry Cavill is set to join the cast of the sixth “Mission: Impossible” film for Paramount and Skydance. “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” writer/director Christopher McQuarrie returns for the new film, both writing and directing the project.
Plot details are still under wraps but sources say Cavill would play a some sort of right hand man to the head of the IMF. Henry Czerny, Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Fishburne, Tom Wilkinson and Alec Baldwin have all played the IMF chief (or in Baldwin’s case chief detractor).
Cavill’s role though essentially sounds like a potential replacement for Jeremy Renner’s character – but Renner is expected to return along with Rebecca Ferguson and Simon Pegg. Cruise will produce along with David Ellison.
Filming begins shortly ahead of a 2018 release.
