Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth (“Knowing,” “The Expendables”) has been cast as Miley Cyrus’ love interest in “The Last Song” for Disney Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.
“The Notebook” author Nicholas Sparks penned the book and script adaptation with Cyrus in mind for the female lead.
The story centers on a rebellious teenager (Cyrus) who is forced to spend the summer with the father who left her years earlier.
Hemsworth is playing a member of the local cool crowd, an awesome beach volleyball player with Ivy League dreams.
Julie Anne Robinson is directing, Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot are producing. Shooting kicks off June 15th in Georgia.
Hemsworth is one of three brothers who’re all famous for their work on Aussie soaps. He and brother Luke starred on “Neighbours” and both have played roles in the Melbourne brothel-set cable series “Satisfaction”.
His other brother Chris starred on rival soapie “Home and Away” and is also breaking into the US market with a key role in Joss Whedon’s upcoming “Cabin in the Woods” and a brief role as Captain Kirk’s father in the opening sequence of J.J. Abrams’ new “Star Trek” film.
