Hello Kitty Gets A Big Budget Movie

Iconic Japanese brand Hello Kitty is getting a film adaptation with lifestyle company Sanrio set to finance and produce a feature based on the character.

The project is expected to have a combined production and marketing budget of anywhere from $160 million-$240 million according to Sanrio executives who will produce the project through its U.S.-based Sanrio Media & Pictures Entertainment division.

The plan at present is for a 2019 worldwide release. Sanrio is also said to be considering other character properties to produce films about as well with the likes of “My Melody” and “Little Twin Stars” being potential candidates.
