Helen Mirren Joins “Arthur” Remake

Helen Mirren is in negotiations to play the nanny of Russell Brand’s Arthur in the upcoming remake of “Arthur” for Warner Bros. Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.

Jason Winer directs and Peter Baynham penned the script for the new incarnation of the Dudley Moore comedy classic about a drunken millionaire playboy who stands to inherit a fortune if he marries an heiress.

Mirren would take over the valet role that scored legendary actor John Gielgud a Best Supporting Actor Oscar back in 1981. Meryl Streep was linked to the role two months ago.

Interestingly enough, Mirren recently played a female version of Prospero in Julie Taymor’s upcoming Shakespeare adaptation “The Tempest” – a role which Gielgud became synonymous with on the stage. Mirren and Gielgud both starred in 1979’s “Caligula”.
