Bravo has opted not to move forward with Jenny Bicks’ small screen reboot/sequel to the cult 1988 dark comedy feature “Heathers”.
The original film revolved around Veronica (Winona Ryder) as she navigates a clique of mean girls – all named Heather – and rebels after meeting J.D. (Christian Slater), the new guy at school. Soon, the Heathers start “accidentally” dying at the hands of Veronica and J.D., who cover up the deaths by faking them as suicides.
The new version would’ve revolved around the teenage daughter of Veronica along with a new generation of mean girls – all daughters of the surviving Heathers.
Fox attempted a small screen remake in 2009 which never came to fruition. Then late last year came word of this ‘sequel’-style series which was one of five new dramas the cable network was pushing into development.
Bicks penned the script and executive produced alongside Mark Rizzo, Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi.
