Just in time for his 25th anniversary, Sonic the Hedgehog is making a big comeback in the gaming world shortly with a bunch of new titles announced over the weekend during San Diego Comic Con.
First up there’s “Sonic Mania” which grew out of love for the classic renditions of “Sonic The Hedgehog” in 2D platformers. Play as Sonic, Tails or Knuckles in levels that are both remixed versions of classics from the original games along with new zones. It is getting a Spring 2017 release on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Then there’s “Project Sonic,” a 3D platformer which will feature some of Sonic’s newer abilities and gameplay style. Like the popular “Sonic Generations,” you’ll be able to play as both the new-age Sonic who is taller and more slender, and the shorter more old-school version of Sonic. It is expected to hit PS4, Xbox One and the NX in late 2017.
Finally there’s the news that Sega has teamed up with the Lego Group to offer a Sonic pack for “Lego Dimensions”. Sonic will be part of the Wave 7 expansion pack series due out on November 18th.
