HBO Picks Up “Deuce” Porn Drama To Series

HBO is extending its relationship with “The Wire” pairing of David Simon George Pelecanos, giving his period porn drama “The Deuce” a series pickup. An episode count and premiere date have not yet been determined however.

The series deals with the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York’s Times Square from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s which saw the bawdy lifestyle collapse with the rise of HIV, the violent cocaine wars and the renewed real estate market.

The story follows twin brothers Vincent and Frankie Martino, both played by James Franco, who became fronts for Mob control of the volatile and lucrative sex industry.

Maggie Gyllenhaal is set as Eileen ‘Candy’ Merrell, a Times Square hooker and veteran with an entrepreneurial bent who is drawn into the fledgling porn industry. Gary Carr, Margarita Levieva, Lawrence Gilliard Jr., Dominique Fishback and Emily Meade also star.

Franco, Michelle MacLaren and Nina Noble will executive produce with MacLaren helming the pilot.
