HBO has ordered the eight-episode TV series adaptation of “Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn’s 2006 novel “Sharp Objects” from Entertainment One and Blumhouse.
“Man of Steel” and “American Hustle” actress Amy Adams will star in the drama which is being built as an ongoing series and so could score a second season.
Adams plays a reporter, fresh from a brief stay at a psychiatric hospital, who must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. Now installed in her old bedroom in her family’s Victorian mansion, she finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too strongly.
Jean-Marc Vallee (“Dallas Buyers Club”) will direct and co-edit the series which Flynn and Marti Noxon (“UnREAL”) are penning. Noxon serves as showrunner while Flynn, Vallee, Jason Blum, Charles Layton, Nathan Ross and Jessica Rhoades will executive produce.
