HBO has given a pilot order to the half-hour comedy “Barry” starring SNL alum Bill Hader. Hader co-wrote and will executive produce the pilot with Alex Berg (“Silicon Valley”), along with starring and directing it as well.
The show centers on a former Marine who works as a low-rent hitman in the Midwest. Lonely and dissatisfied with his life, he begrudgingly travels to Los Angeles on a job and ends up finding an accepting community in a group of eager hopefuls within the L.A. theater scene.
Hader recently co-created the IFC series “Documentary Now!,” made a guest appearance on FOX’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and starred in the Amy Schumer comedy “Trainwreck”.
