HBO & Laura Dern’s “The Tale” Hits May 26th

HBO has announced a Saturday May 26th premiere date for its mystery drama feature “The Tale” starring Laura Dern. The story is based on award-winning writer-director Jennifer Fox’s own true story.

Dern plays a fearless, 50-ish documentary filmmaker who faces life-altering questions when a short story she wrote for school at age thirteen is found by her mother (Ellen Burstyn).

The story, which details how her horseback riding instructor (Elizabeth Debicki) and running coach (Jason Ritter) allegedly conspired to deflower her, forces her to re-examine her first sexual relationship which she always saw as a ‘thing of beauty’.

The film explores how memories can embellish and preserve hurtful experiences from our youth and details the stories we tell ourselves in order to survive. Common, Frances Conroy and John Heard also star.
