Emma Thompson will play a celebrity-turned-politician in the BBC and HBO future-set family drama “Years & Years” which hails from “Queer as Folk” creator and former “Doctor Who” showrunner Russell T. Davies.
The six-part series follows one British family, the Lyons, over a fifteen year period starting in 2019. We follow this ordinary family through political instability, technological advances and a changing economy.
Rory Kinnear plays the financial advisor and breadwinner, married to T’Nia Miller as an ambitious accountant. Russell Tovey and Jessica Hynes play Kinnear’s siblings, while Ruth Madeleyn and Anne Reid also star.
Thompson will play Vivienne Rook, an outspoken celebrity-turned-politician whose controversial opinions divide the nation. BBC, HBO and Canal Plus will all produce the project which is about to begin filming in Manchester un the helm of Simon Cellan Jones (“Boardwalk Empire”).
The limited series follows on from Davies’ recent success this year with the Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw-led “A Very English Scandal”.
