Haynes Replaces Crowley On “Carol”

Filmmaker Todd Haynes (“I’m Not There,” “Far from Heaven”) has become attached to direct the film adaptation of “Talented Mr. Ripley” author Patricia Highsmith’s “Carol” (aka “The Price of Salt”) for Number 9 and Film4.

Phyllis Nagy adapted the tale about the complex relationship between two very different women in 1950s New York. One is a twenty-something girl working in a department store who dreams of a more fulfilling life, the other is a wife trapped in a loveless marriage.

John Crowley (“Boy A”) was previously linked as director but departed due to scheduling conflicts. Haynes’ regular collaborator Christine Vachon will co-produce.
