A few weeks ago came the disappointing news that ABC had opted NOT to pick up its acclaimed Marvel Comics drama series “Agent Carter” for a third season.
That seems to be the last we’ll see of Captain America’s great love Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) for the moment, but the “Captain America” franchise has moved on with Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers now starting up a romance with Peggy’s niece Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) in “Captain America: Civil War”.
In a new interview with IGN over the weekend, Atwell revealed she wasn’t happy with that romantic aspect of ‘Civil War’, explaining what Peggy would have actually felt about Steve and Sharon’s kiss:
“Well, first of all she’d be turning over in her grave. She’d be like ‘no.’ And she’d inject herself with the blue serum and become a super villain. She’d break out of her coffin and ground [Sharon]. She’d ground her. Then she’d kick Steve’s ass as well. I just feel that, you know – I wouldn’t want to date my great aunt’s guy. It just feels like it crosses an incestuous boundary. And Peggy just died. That’s even more disrespectful, right? It’s like, ‘don’t touch that. You can’t tap that!'”
Whether the relationship will get any more progress in the next two “Avengers” films isn’t clear. The two-film shoot kicks off in November, and VanCamp’s involvement in the films has not been confirmed.
