Keeley Hawes (“Bodyguard”), Ann Dowd (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), Sam Riley (“Maleficent”) and Ben Crompton (“Game of Thrones”) will join Kristin Scott Thomas, Lily James and Armie Hammer in Ben Wheatley’s “Rebecca” for Netflix and Working Title.
In this new adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s classic novel, James plays a young woman who has married a rich, handsome, cold and fascinating widower Max De Winter (Hammer) who lives at an imposing estate on the bleak English coast.
She soon learns she must live in the shadow of his domineering former wife, Rebecca, who died under mysterious circumstances several years earlier. She must also deal with Mrs. Danvers (Thomas) who will not accept her as the new mistress of the house.
Jane Goldman penned the new take and filming gets underway next week in the UK and France. The property was previously adapted for the big screen in 1940 by Alfred Hitchcock as his first American studio picture – scoring much acclaim and winning numerous awards including a Best Picture Oscar.
