Have Your Say: “Thor”

The Summer movie season gets into full swing with Marvel’s ambitious and admittedly risky “Thor”. The comic title is the first real outright fantasy film adaptation by the studio, one made trickier by having to link it with our real world which will allow Thor to appear in next year’s “The Avengers”.

The critics like it with an 80% and 6.8/10 rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while a more mixed 58/100 has been given on Metacritic.

As one of the few films this year that opened here in Australia first, I posted my review the other week and my sentiment hasn’t changed – I quite enjoyed it but had issues with the script, the S.H.I.E.L.D. scenes and the lack of characterisations, especially during the Earth-based scenes.

Good action set pieces, interesting design, a sense of fun, and the performances of Hemsworth, Hiddleston and Elba are what make it for me. As for where it sits compared with other Marvel films I’d say about fifth best – around the same level as the first “X-Men”.
