Hathaway, “Mustang” Helmer Board “Lifeboat”

Turkish-French filmmaker Deniz Gamze Erguven (“Mustang”) has been slated to replace Joe Wright as the director of the film adaptation of Charlotte Rogan’s novel “The Lifeboat” at Focus Features, Working Title and Film 360.

Anne Hathaway is attached to both produce and star as Grace Winter, a young woman who recounts the tale of how she survived a shipwreck at sea while on trial for murder in 1914.

The film explores the moral crisis that presents itself when she discovers there are too many people on board her lifeboat and if some don’t abandon ship, they’ll all perish.

William Broyles Jr. penned the script while Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Liza Chasin, Suzan Bymel and Ben Forkner are producing. Erguven recently wrapped the L.A. riots film “Kings” starring Daniel Craig and Halle Berry.
