After stalling for a few years, the “X-Men” spin-off film “Gambit” seems to be finally moving again with the recent hiring of “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “The Ring” helmer Gore Verbinski to direct the project.
Channing Tatum remains attached to play the Cajun mutant who can create and manipulate kinetic energy, and often goes around with a staff and a deck of playing cards as his form of defense.
Recent rumours have pointed to Mr. Sinister being the film’s lead villain, with Daniel Craig’s name being mentioned as a possibility. However a new report at Omega Underground reveals that Candra The Benefactress could be serving as the primary antagonist.
In the comics, the character is best known as ‘Red Death’, and controls both the Thieves Guild and Assassins Guild. She also possessed extremely powerful telekinetic abilities.
“Gambit” is said to have an “Ocean’s 11”-style heist tone with scenes both in the past and present as Remy LeBeau develops a relationship with Bella Donna. The site also reports that Oscar-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan (“Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Sherlock Holmes”) has joined the production.
“Gambit” is currently targeting a February 14th 2019 release.
