Has The Fourth “Avengers” Title Slipped Out?

Production is continuing apace on Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” with the film still shooting ahead of the fourth “Avengers” which will kick off filming immediately after ‘Infinity War’ wraps.

Yesterday came word from Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige that the title for the fourth “Avengers” film wouldn’t be released for a while as it was potentially a spoiler as to what happens in ‘Infinity War’. Today though, someone else may have let it slip.

Actress Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, was speaking at the ‘Guardians’ sequel’s U.K. premiere yesterday where she told BBC reporter Lizo Mzimba about her Marvel shooting schedule:

“I think that the Guardians just shot their part when it comes to ‘Infinity War,’ the first part, and we all have to go back for ‘Gauntlet’ later this year.”

Though unconfirmed at present, the title of “Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet” makes perfect sense and would be a reversal of the comic material on which this is based (in the comics ‘Gauntlet’ preceded ‘War’). How it’s a spoiler though is unclear, though it wouldn’t be if it’s merely a placeholder name during the film’s production with the official title coming later.

Update: James Gunn has gone on the record about this, telling Yahoo: “It’s not the title. My guess is that Zoe just misspoke. I’ll talk to Zoe today, but I would imagine that is just Zoe misspeaking and saying ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ instead of ‘Infinity War’.”

Speaking of “Avengers,” Saldana’s co-star Chris Pratt was asked by io9 about the recent DC Extended Universe movies from Warner Bros. Pictures and why those films haven’t been as well received as much of Marvel’s fare. He says:

“I really like all the Warner Bros. movies. I think they’re really cool and I’m not a real tough critic on those movies. But one of the flaws might have been they were introducing too many characters in Suicide Squad. They spent 10 minutes telling us why should we care about these characters, rather than creating trilogies for each character and convincing us to care about the characters.”

“Avengers: Infinity War” opens May 4th 2018, “Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet” (if that’s correct) opens May 3rd 2019.
