Two days after the announcement of his hiring as host of the Academy Awards, comedian Kevin Hart is in potential danger of losing his dream job because old social media comments of his that are insensitive towards the gay community, if not homophobic, have begun going viral.
In one tweet from 2011, Hart wrote: “Yo if my son comes home & try’s 2 play with my daughters doll house I’m going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice ‘stop that’s gay.'” Hart commented on Damien Wayans’ profile photograph by comparing it to “a gay bill board for AIDS” while another actor he replied to saying: “What r u some type of FAT F-G that takes pics of small black men all day?.” Those are just the start apparently with others showing repeated use of derogatory language specifically about gay people.
Comedian Billy Eichner of Billy on the Street commented on the report saying: “many of us have jokes/tweets we regret. I’m ok with tasteless jokes, depending on context. What bothers me about these is you can tell its not just a joke -there’s real truth, anger & fear behind these. I hope Kevin’s thinking has evolved since 2011.”
Hart, who is overseas, responded with an Instagram post where he says: “Stop looking for reasons to be negative..Stop searching for reasons to be angry…I swear I wish you guys could see/feel/understand the mental place that I am in. I am truly happy.” Hart also scrubbed some of his offensive comments last night from his social media accounts.
The Academy was forced to pressure Brett Ratner in 2011 to drop out of producing the Oscars because of his utterance of the infamous line “rehearsal is for f–s” at a public event along with his utter disregard for women in a radio interview with Howard Stern.
That was also before recent times when old words on social media have now taken on new accountability. The Oscars airs on ABC, owned by Disney who famously fired James Gunn from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” earlier this year for old bad taste jokes on Twitter.
Hart’s hiring was met with a mix of reaction when announced earlier this week, more so than the far more well-received news of Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh hosting the Golden Globes.

Stop looking for reasons to be negative…Stop searching for reasons to be angry….I swear I wish you guys could see/feel/understand the mental place that I am in. I am truly happy people….there is nothing that you can do to change that…NOTHING. I work hard on a daily basis to spread positivity to all….with that being said. If u want to search my history or past and anger yourselves with what u find that is fine with me. I’m almost 40 years old and I’m in love with the man that I am becoming. You LIVE and YOU LEARN & YOU GROW & YOU MATURE. I live to Love….Please take your negative energy and put it into something constructive. Please….What’s understood should never have to be said. I LOVE EVERYBODY…..ONCE AGAIN EVERYBODY. If you choose to not believe me then that’s on you….Have a beautiful day
