Two months after he revealed he was leaving, actor Harry Shearer has agreed to rejoin the voice cast of FOX’s “The Simpsons” for its twenty-seventh season.
Shearer’s departure, announced in May, was a major blow as he is responsible for voicing many of the show’s most prominent supporting characters including Mr. Burns, Smithers, Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner, Reverend Lovejoy and countless more.
Shearer’s change of heart wasn’t for more money either, the actor has reportedly agreed to sign the same contract as the rest of the show’s primary voice cast – a contract which keeps him on the show for another four seasons and sees him nab over $300,000 per episode.
Originally the plan was to recast rather than retire Shearer’s characters, but the actor’s return was quick enough that recasting won’t have to take place. The new season kicks off September 27th.
