Hardy Replaces Fassbender In “Tinker”

One rising Irish actor is being replaced by a British one as Tom Hardy (“Inception,” “Bronson”) has stepped into the role of Ricky Tarr in the new film adaptation of John le Carre’s “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” for Working Title reports The Daily Mail.

Set in the mid-70’s during the height of the Cold War, Gary Oldman plays a judicious, reserved, middle-aged intelligence expert who is recalled out of forced retirement. His task? To hunt down a Soviet mole in the “Circus”, the highest echelons of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6).

Tarr (Hardy) helps mole hunter George Smiley (Oldman) put the pieces of his investigation together. Michael Fassbender was at one point going to play Tarr, but his commitment to “X-Men: First Class” has ruled that possibility out.

Ciaran Hinds, Jared Harris, Colin Firth, David Thewlis and Benedict Cumberatch also star in the film which begins shooting in a few weeks.
