Universal Cable Productions has unveiled their development slate for the near future and confirmed new series are on the way from “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke and “Rick & Morty” co-creator Dan Harmon.
Hardwicke will executive produce an adaptation of Maggie Stiefvater’s best-selling urban fantasy novels “The Raven Cycle” for Syfy. The story follows a seventeen-year-old Blue Sargent who becomes involved with a group of four privileged private school boys on a quest to find a source of mythical and mysterious power hidden deep in rural Virginia.
Harmon and Evan Katz will team on an adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut’s “Sirens of Titan”. The story follows Malachi Constant, the richest man in 22nd-century America thanks to some extraordinary luck. He begins a journey that takes him to Mars, Mercury, Earth and Titan.
Marc Forster will executive produce and direct the pilot for a film adaptation of Hugh Howey’s post-apocalyptic novel series “Sand” for Syfy. The action drama is set in a world ravaged by ecological devastation and follows a family of sand divers – an elite few who can travel deep beneath the desert floor to retrieve mysterious and valuable relics.
In similar news, “Like Crazy” director Drake Doremus is attached to a romantic drama series adaptation of Jardine Libaire’s acclaimed novel “White Fur” which Amazon has picked up.
The love story follows a young couple who battles the class divide and social conformity in 1980s New York. Libaire will adapt her second novel for the series which will mark Doremus’ first foray into directing for television
Finally, “Ex Machina” director Alex Garland has signed an overall television production deal with FX Productions. Garland will develop, write and produce television projects exclusively for FX Productions.
